ethylene glycol

Dylan

Be careful with glycol as one of them is dangerous - the type you put in your car. But the other is in a lot of our foods.

This was the subject of a YBW thread in 2006

"Ethylene glycol poisoning is caused by the ingestion of ethylene glycol, the primary ingredient in automotive antifreeze. Ethylene glycol is a toxic, colorless, odorless, almost nonvolatile liquid with a sweet taste that is sometimes accidentally consumed by children and animals due to its sweetness".

"Propylene glycol is used by the chemical, food, and pharmaceutical industries as an antifreeze when leakage might lead to contact with food. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has classified propylene glycol as an additive that is "generally recognized as safe" for use in food.Jan 21, 2015

my compass says it is filled with glycol

before I hit the paypal button - I am assuming that means propylene glycol

not ethylyne glycol

"Glycol" usually means ethylene glycol .......... just as "alcohol" usually means ethyl alcohol.

Its toxic so dont drink it ........ and dont let the dog drink it ! Pets and children find it attractive because of its sweet taste

If you can sample the existing stuff, find someone with an electronic cigarette to refill with it. If it produces lots of vapour it's PG. If so, I've got a very big bottle of it I no longer need, given up e-cigs.

But how will ethylene glycol behave in an e- cig ? Possibly similar but be rather dangerous to use?
