Essex Marina Wallasea

I assume this is the marina on the opposite shore from Burnham Yacht Harbour?

Sailed past it many times but it didn't look a very sheltered place to be and I would imagine the tide runs hard through the marina at anything apart from at slack water.

Happy to be proven wrong by anybody with direct experiance :)

essex marina

Hi TS, I had my first boat there about 12 years ago I was a complete novice, and many times I entertain the onlookers getting into the finger berth which was across the tide running sometimes 2/3 knts, you can get out all states of tide if thats an important factor, if not up river there is bridgemarsh marine where Iam based nice place and friendly people also less costly access is 4hrs either side of Hw, if interested call Biff the yard manager 07968696815.

Yes, I can imagine the tide could be a problem at Wallasea, Spoke to Biff a couple months back when I was at Bridgemarsh to meet up with Dave (DS rigging) Biff did say he could accommodate me if I wanted short stay there.

Speaking with JD today and it does look to be the favourite.

IMHO, bridgemarsh is so much nicer.... Essex always feels a little soul-less to me, whereas bridgemarsh is full of character

Yes that's the impression I had when I visited the place about 10 years ago, to be fair though it was a wet miserable day. But I do remember the place having quite a few sail boats there.

When berthing at Essex aim for a boat several berths before yours down current, then let the water carry you up to the boat next to you & hit the throttle aiming for the back of you neighbour. The tide will carry you the extra boat width before you hit it:confused:
Then all you have to worry about is getting into the finger quick enough to stop the stern swinging past your berth, & then stop before you crash into the pontoon. Sound fun:D
With a lot of practice its ok:rolleyes:

yes, most there are Romford navy and the tide does run stron through there.

Fambridge is nice but a long way up the river and the moorings there are twice the price of those at Priors!

I havn't tried Bridgemarsh yet. Maybe I'll plague Full Circle and Chatteringlil with my presence there soon. No pub, though, and the only reason to visit a marina is fuel, water, leccy, chandlers and pub! Apart from that, they're not generally destinations in their own right, just expensive boat parks.

err-hmm whats with the "romford navy" ? could some one enlighten please .

is that right about priors yard being half price of fambridge ??? coz if everyone piles up round bridgemarsh i gonna lose my space , if i aint already  and could end up looking for a swinger for few months and didnt fancy Byh as been done that before .

:D i'm wiggling allright :D

had the donkey fired up last w/e for first time in ages , gotta get her botty cleaned up and then waiting for tollesbury to give me the nod to get her over there for 3 weeks while they fix the coach roof, nu riggin etc then its flank speed round to the crouch , the rest of jobs can then be done afloat

more work than i first thought to be honest :o:o

Essex marina is a bit full of the Romford navy, understandable as it is the home of Essex Boatyards.
It is a controlled crash rather than a berthing in the true sense of the word and in certain wind conditions can be very tricky as you have to go in at a fair old speed. Most people smother their fingers with fenders and carpets but I picked up a few scrapes and only stayed a season.

nobody has mentioned the burnham yacht harbour. its expensive but you can at least get in and out at all states of the tide, there are lots of good palces to eat in burnham, lots of pubs and there is a supermarket in walking distance.

there's a chandler in the yacht harbour and a bar and restaurant which has recently changed hands so it should be better than it was (got totally ripped off when we had our rally there but the new owners should be better)

if you can afford it its okay (I can't) so we have a swinging morring at Priors in the river itself. Launch service at weekends and on demand normal working hours in the week.

okay so you can't walk ashore but picking up a morring is a lot easier than berthing in a marina with a tide running!

Sorry to revive and hijack this thread at the same time but you all seem to have knowledge of an area I am interested in. I am looking for a residential mooring, Essex Marina does them but the nearest train station is 6 miles away and I need one in walking distance.

Does anyone know a marina that does residential moorings and is near a train station?

EDIT: Since I posted this (but whilst my first post was awaiting approval) I have had some help by PM but any other suggestions welcome.
