Hi all - has anyone come-across a list of residential coastal moorings in Essex or Suffolk, preferably freehold?
Noods to be capable of mooring a 95' barge....
Oh dear, I searched for a mooring for my 78' for long enough, gave up and sold on.
There's some for sale on the Medway, obviously a ways south, but if you are looking at working in the smoke, Stroud, Rochester is an easy commute.
Rentals and a liveaboard community at Hoo.
Isleham has a liveaboard community, but a 95' keel? is a different matter as Isleham is head of navigation and I don't think you will be shallow drafted enough or ablle to get around the sharp turns. Orwell, Wissey, Lee or Broads best bet.
thanks for the response. Unfortunately we need to stay in Essex or Suffolk for the next few years until our daughter finishes school, and then if necessary we can relocate to pretty-much wherever we can find a plot. The barge originally came from Hoo, and the community there appears to be just that - a community...looks like a lovely place to live. Ho hum, keep looking....
try pagglesham its a bit out of the road but it makes up in sheer beauty, theres that marina at the end of city airport which is ok and handy for the city, mud berth in brandy hole or over the other side in althorne, behind the bridge at benfleet if you can get in there handy for the station too. maybe wakering, i ,m sure theres lots of places to park up
small gains creek Canvey could be worth a try, benfleet creek alongside the Railway line, allways friendly bunch there, theres an old wharf behind rochford which would be nice but i havnt been there for yrs, Wakering boat yard, dauntless boat yard, theres obviously no permission on any of these for live aboard as per our politically correct pay yer poll tax masters, but you know how it is, !!! keep in touch let me know how you get on
They have just created some new liveaboard berths at Sutton Wharf in Rochford (top end of the Roach - about an hour by boat from Pagglesham). The barge off the Grand Designs TV prog is one of them. Still two or three vacant when I was down there at the weekend. You need to talk to Nigel - oh seven 765 three nine 8126 More of a boat yard really but probably cheap.
