Espar D4 heater do i leave it on or not

hi guys i have just changed my yacht and this one has Espar D4 heater... with the facility to start and shut down on a timer . i was thinking of running it once a day or once a week with out any one on the boat.... do any one else do this or is this a silly ider .

I do not do that with my Eberspacher. Don't see the need to. It sits idle for most of the year but has always worked perfectly when i need it in the winter.

You'd definitely need reliable shorepower and charging to ensure the batteries don't end up being drained.

Once a month for 10 mins when not in regular use is the usual advice. That's what I do in the summer and in the winter - Oct to March it is running for probably 8 to 10 hours a day. Mine has run for 5000 hrs plus on that regime. Get a good filter and change it every 500 hrs.

It is best to run the heater regularly . Say once a month as a minimum . But only if you are on the boat . I have seen faults develop and would not wish to leave the heater running unattended.

When the heater is put on it need to be given a good run of at least an hour . I make sure it is run at full power for at least 10 minutes before switching it off in an attempt to clear any carbon from slow running.

i dont know where the filter is i will need to look.. for that .do it use a lot of fuel and batteries when running

The only concern I would have is that the exhaust must be clear of fenders (don't ask me how I know this !), lines and other boat's hulls moored to close. As long as you can be sure there is no chance of these happening should be OK the thing itself is smothered in safety devices.
