I know this question has been around for a while, and some people have successfully replaced batteries in EPIRBs, but does anyone know of how to replace the batteries in a KANNAD 406S epirb? They want to charge me £200 to replace them, so I either find a cheaper way or they don't get replaced..
Any knowledgable ideas gratefully received.

I'm not familiar with the Kannard 406S, can you get at the batteries? if so, and you can remove & identify them fairly easily, get a quote from www.allbatteries.com and www.cellpacksolutions.com
I have only dealt with allbatteries about 3 years ago, I replaced my batteries for a Jotron EPIRB for about £40 instead of £200 - a bit fiddly but well worth the trouble. The chances are they use standard batteries made up into a 'pack' to give the required voltage. Both the above companies can make up a similar pack. I believe to comply with SOLAS they have to be high quality batteries that have to work for a minimum of 48hrs at -20ºC. You might be able to fit cheaper batteries if your cruising area is in more temperate climes.

I'd rather be sailing...

Had a look at the sites. I don't know what batteries it uses, but i'll have a look - if i can open it. If not, Sartech service this model of EPIRB, so I'll ask them for a price. Thanks, Pete.
