I'm blummin fed up, me. Nearly at end of revival schedule for my old boat and engine plays up, probably terminally - to be confirmed by cunning artificer friend of friend. Anyway...various options but would appreciate comments on bolting a bracket on back and putting a S/H outboard on, one of them with a prop more suited to yachts (saildrive ?). Boat is a Folkdancer - lookalike folkboat below water with a reverse counter.

Is it petrol or diesel and what make, sometimes it can be easier to rectify the problem than get involved in putting outboards on the back !

Will have good idea soon about cost plus time for ole Yanmar. For outboard ? Cons are reduced push I suppose, vulnerable to drowning, prop coming out of water, fuel consumption, unknown handling. Vague recall of someone with outboard linked to tiller so it swivelled. Would installation be 4 bolts + a backing pad and epoxy and drop the motor on ? Anyone with first hand experience would help me weigh up the options.

By the time you buy an outboard, bracket and a bucket of extra fuel for the season you may regret not spending a little more on sorting out the inboard. A bit of negotiating may get you a little Nanni that will fit in on the bed plate for a 1 GM10 and give you smooth ecanomical motoring as well as a decent battery charging medium. outboards on brackets do work but it's just not the same.

Yup, engine kaput is todays verdict. So, will a Nanni drop onto 1GM bearers with tolerable shaft line up ?

This winter I replaced the 1GM10 with a Nanni 14 in my Hunter. The weight of the 2 engines are the same.
The mounts are 10mm wider apart and the front one further forward. The height of the yanmar mounts are a lot higher than the Nanni.
I made up some channels to bolt to the exsisting yanmar holes in the bed and then fitted new r&d mounts on top.

The only problem was that the alternator was larger than standard and needed the frame to be cut a little. The shaft lined up without a problem.
With careful design work before hand the engine only took 30 minutes to fit in and aline. Plus the wiring, fuel and exhaust etc.
If you want more details please PM me.
