Good evening!

I am in the process of restoring a Dell Quay Ranger. The engine in my hull is sound as a pound, as is the outdrive, its just the rest that is needing attention (nothing structural, just cosmetic). A second hull has become available which is beautiful inside and out, but has no engine... My question is, is an engine transplant from one boat to t'other feasible? And does anyone have a rough ballpark idea of the costs involved? Just to make life more complicated, mine is a single installation (AD41 with 290 duoprop) and the donor hull was a twin - is it possible to therefore cut out the transom of one and replace it with t'other?!

If anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate it

Muchos gracias

Always liked the Ranger. I would look at setting a very heavy (25 mm) ply rectangle over the two existing holes and carve out a new hole for the single out drive. You then need to look at the engine beds. It would be great if the engine could fit between the port and stbd inner beds but I am sure they will be too close together so you will have some major surgery to carry out. Still thinking out loud, I have just realised that engine mounts may be partly supported by transom.?????????

Very best of luck in your project

I did a similar thing (other way round) with a Senior 26, it is a lot of work to do it right.
If you are paying out to have it done it will cost more than buying a "ready to go" boat, if you are doing the work yourself I still have the pictures and could give you some pointers.

Thank you for the comments - I was erring towards the cosmetic route anyway (as I can do 100% of that myself and save tonnes on labour etc) but that has just confirmed it!
