Engine surging

Hi all,
I have a volvo kad44p-c. Gets to 2880 revs then compressor cuts in and out for a couple of minutes and goes on to full revs. It seems that the turbo doesnt takeover at first. Changed the turbo and joints but still the same. Any ideas?

Hi Paul, i changed the turbo recently for a brand new one. Once the engine does pickup it goes straight up to 3900 revs.

Shit in the fuel or air in the fuel lines .

Fuel supply would be the first thing to look at with a surging engine especially in light of new turbo. Filters etc

Perkins 4236, surging caused by a very old fuel pump, replaced the pump, problem went away
