I suspect that car engines are fixed to the subframe ( or whatever it's called) in a very different way from boat engines to bearers.

Boat engines seem to sit ON bearers; car engines seem to sit IN the subframe.

Not really. They use rubber/metal mounts in just the same way. The weakness (if there is one) is detachment of the rubber from the metal parts of the mount. The OP was worried, however about the security of the lag bolts holding in the wooden engine bearers. Unless there is serious rot in the wood around the areas the bolts are screwed into there is no chance they will pull out to the extent that the engine becomes detached from the boat.

The chance of inversion past the AVS is just about zero, and the chances of the engine becoming detached in the process are even lower. So nothing to worry about.
