Does anyone out there know where I can source an engine stand for a Bukh DV10. I can get scads of them for engines that have bell housings but unable to find anything mor universal. Have tried Google in all directions.

Any clues?

Hi fellow Plymothian (and one keen to get back there.)
The stands you mention use the holes drilled into the block in order to support the unit. The Bukh DV10 has a huge flywheel in the way and I cannot see how the stand bracket can be attached to the block. There are no holes to use. Unless i am missing something.

If I remember correctly your engine has the flywheel on the forw'd end. Can you not mount the engine on the stand on the aft end where the gearbox fits on?

Otherwise, remove the flywheel whilst you work on the engine? Presumably if its a major overhaul you will have to remove the flywheel anyway?

Yep, flywheel is on front end. Trouble is, as I understand it, the pegs on the stand screw into the holes left in the engine casing when the bell housing is removed. I will take another food look at the engine tomorrow and see if there are any compatible holes I can use. I am replacing piston rings and possibly cylinder sleeves. It would sure be worth £40 for a stand so I could manipulate the motor's position. To get at the big ends the engine needs to be upside down (according to Bukh manual.) It aint that heavey nut at 330 pounds it is heavey enough.
I will look again.

330 lbs is heavy enough!

The Machine Mart stand that I borrowed from my friend was the larger of the two on the website that I referred to, but I think that both of the stands attach to the engine on the same principle.

They have a sort of universal face with a couple of arms that allow almost any shape of engine block face to be bolted to it. I am fairly confident that your engine would attach ok at the gearbox end. You may have to buy some longer bolts of the correct size/thread to go through the spacers that are usually put on the plate face.

The way that I attached mine was to bolt the universal face on and then lift the engine with a hoist until I could locate the face onto the stand. (The stand's face has a shaft on it that slides into the stand and allows the engine to be rotated by a lever.) Its fairly obvious from the photos on the Machine mart website.

Hope that you sort it out. I have rebuilt a few engines in the past - a sad history of running a modsports car in hillclimbing and I never had the luxury of an engine stand in those days. It makes a big difference! Mind you in those days, my brother and I used to put the engine into the car by slinging it on a length of 4x2 across our shoulders... No hoist either!
