Engine re-spray

Slight thread drift but perhaps someone can comment. Am I right in thinking that because my old Volvo MD2B is painted blue and not Volvo green it has been out of the boat for repair/overhaul at sometime in the past?

Tip of the day is 'ring the nice man at Bukh' who will tell you what the hell to do! There is no Haynes guide for this monster:eek:

But you can get a download of the Bukh Workshop Manual if you rummage around on the internet or PM me.

It's a bit patchy - words of one syllable in some places, and lots of assumed knowledge in others - but useful. Some of the English translation adds entertainment!

I'm with Champers on this as I have just relined and pistoned my 37 year old VP MDIIC and she runs just sweet. Having financially evaluated the re-engine route which would have been some 75% of the boats purchase price, due to needing new prop, shaft, exhaust, etc etc the whole rebuild cost just about £900.00. I could do it again 6 times over and still be quids in, but should not need to as I reckon it will last another 30 years by which time I will be in or damn close to Davy Jones'.

Amen.... as long as it works out! Another 30 years with a bit of luck and then I'll either be under the sod or (more) ga-ga:)

The trusty(?) 31 yr old Bukh has been partially dismantled and is awaiting craning out for new wet liners, piston rings and a full gasket set. A birthday in other words. While she's out of the boat I rather like the idea of getting her blasted and re-sprayed, some rust and grot as would be expected.
Anyone any ideas where/who might be the best to do this?

Avocet Yacht Services in New Cut Ipswich have a sandblaster and can spray paint your engine. Ask for Tim and tell him that I told him the Sandblasting kit I sold him would pay for itself in no time at all !!
