Must be a great feeling knowing you did that and know every inch of the motor, darn sight cheaper than a new lump as well.
Its been tremendous fun, I really look forward to each session on it. Heaven knows what I'm going to do next year. Anyone want an old Bukh renovating?

And here lies the danger. If this wasn't mentioned in the article, I fear that there may be people out there who are hanging on to their old engine - and throwing good money after bad - because the cost of having a new engine is prohibitively high.
When this is not necessarily the case.
This is a problem, I agree, due to space constraints in the magazine (i.e. it only has a set number of pages) we have to try to get as much info in a feature as possible in the number of pages the editor gives a feature. The piece in the magazine was written for more pages, so some of it had to be cut out. One of the bits that was cut out was the explanation about the prices, but this was included on YM plus http://www.yachtingmonthly.com/plus/532870/replacing-an-old-engine-costs-and-contacts
YM always include RRP prices in the magazine as we never know what deals/bargains are available at the time of going to press, or when the feature comes out. I did say in the copy that I saved over £1,000 off the RRP by buying at the boatshow which I thought made it clear that deals were available.
It's true you can buy a lot of beer for the price we paid for a new engine, but when that big red lump treated us the way my one year old daughter treats her nappies, I was glad to get rid of it once and for all. We now have lots of power, manoeuvring is a doddle, as we now have power to overcome the propwalk, so can reverse to port AND starboard. We have a quieter much more reliable engine, she cruises at 2,300rpm and I can have a conversation from the helm to someone in the saloon. It's lighter and more economical. Given the choice I would do the same again.
I still think I'm having more fun!

I really enjoyed the process of re engining, fitting what I could, thinking about the installation, learning as much as I could about the process to write the article etc, etc.
If I didn't have to take holiday for every day I wanted to work on the boat, a very young daughter and a 2-3 hour drive home, I would have enjoyed the process a lot more![]()

Photograph and document the entire process, then sell your article to Snooks' lot and you're quids in![]()
