Engine Problem - help please

I've also seen mechanics do that here as well.
Thin motoroil (10SAE 20SAE) in diesel. Their argument is that it lubricates better after any water in diesel issue and "saves" the pump in the long run.
Typically done in the first tankful to make sure there's no time for rust to settle in.
Not sure how scientific or helpful that is tbh.

People been putting oil in diesel tanks since the dawn of time, lots of people still add two stroke oil in the belief it makes up for the lack of lube in modern diesel, yank truck drivers used to put their old engine oil in the fuel tanks to get rid of it.

same here Vas, in fact I run a good smear of lanolin grease on the thread and o-ring just to make sure.

I am interested to know why the mechanic said not leave the engine on idle for a prolonged period. How does that promote rusting?

What I said was "not to leave the engine idle for a long period" meaning unused - I can see however how the confusion might arise so happy to clarify.

THEY TEND TO BREATH THIER OWN CRAP, that's if they intercooled you do not say. if yes then check the matrix in the charge air air cooler.

I think I'm reasonably proficient in English, Irish and Turkish but I have to confess you've got me stumped.

IR, I'm less proficient in English than you but I think what Omega means is that if your engines are turbocharged, there are v.likely to have oil deposits in the Charge air cooler, so remove them and clean them not only inside (the seawater part) but outside as well. Engine breather returning to inlet, choking with oil inlet path.
Your engines are probably non-turbo, so you're fine...

My engines have turbos and there is always some oil around the air intake filter mesh. I'll have a look tomorrow and see if it is more than usual.
