Hi all. Time is up for the mounts fitted to my Yanmar 3YM20 (I'm pretty sure these are the standard Yanmar items), so I've been Googling for alternatives. The engine doesn't jump around or display anything out of the ordinary - but there is no evidence as to how old these are plus I want to change the coupling, shaft seal and cutlass this year - so new mounts are on the to do list.

Ellebogen get good reviews of course, but in the interests of economics I went for a Google, and came across this company - NOVIBRASYON – Novibrasyon Marin
- as a potential alternative.

They are based in Turkey and as there is a fair community of postings from Med based sailors I wanted to ask if anyone has had experience of them ? The company also supply cutlass bearings it would appear.

Thanks all

Thanks to all for the replies- found a cracking deal direct with the same mount supplier used by P4E. They look to be much better quality than the standard Yanmar items.

Yanmar engine mounts have a very poor paint finish and soon rust if you have any dampness in the bilges. I think ABYC recommend a wire retaining strap around the mount as they are not captive if the rubber fails. I also have read somewhere that the service life is given as 5 years.
For the rip off cost I think there are better options.

So it is really about price. A bit of paint on the shield is not that important in the grand scheme of things.
I cannot see how a wire strap would make much difference. I had an engine mount fail & the engine just dropped 2 inches.
5 years service life seems very short. But there again engine hours would surely be the governing factor- Would it not?
The next point I would be looking for is a mount with the designed flexibility.
Our local cowboy fitted a new engine in my launch with the wong mounts & the vibration of my Beta was very bad. When changed to the correct Beta mounts - which seemed very light & flexible in comparison- the engine ran sweetly.

But in the end, if your new mounts work, Ok then no problem. No comment needed & what is better than that?

While other people have had their engine bay torn apart as a result.

The next point
No it wouldn’t. Elastomers degrade with time and generally lack of use accelerates this process. As such a time based replacement is absolutely correct here.

Isn’t the issue about mount failing during a knock down as they are not captured like others? And also don’t have a top cover to keep oil etc off the rubber.
