I've got an Enfield Z drive which appears to be leaking oil from the prop seal. Have downloaded the manual and parts list however it describes how to completely dismantle then reassemble the lower leg. My question is does everything have to be dismantled or is it a simple fix, has anyone done this? Any advice greatly appreciated

You have to take the skeg off to get the seal housing out, if the leg is fitted it is better to disconect the selector rod from the quadrant and drop the complete gear train out, if you get stuck send me a PM?

There is a mod for the oil seal which uses two seals (see http://www.boatsthames.com/engineering.html0 worth fitting if you have the old single seal type fitted.

If you take the leg to Bob Knowles to change a seal it will need a full rebuild costing mega-bucks!

Many thanks for the info guys. Will be fitting the mod with two seals. Macnorton thanks for your offer of help, will pm you if I get stuck, thanks again. Just a thought, I know its EP 90 gear oil for the leg, would that be API GL-4 or API GL-5. I assume that because of the age it would be the older oil API GL-4
