Electronics boffin Needed

Look at the wiring diagrams for the VHF and plotter (post them here is you get stuck). Connect the NMEA OUT- and + from the plotter to the NMEA IN - and + on the VHF.

Look through the menu on the plotter and find the port settings, set the port output to NMEA.

If it's all working as it should, the VHF set will show your lat, lon etc.

If that doesn't make sense, post some links to the manuals and i'll tell you which wires to connect to which.

The SH will accept NMEA v2.0 or higher at 4800 baud so your Garmin GPS 45 should work with it, I am assuming for this purpose that you have the optional dash mount and external power lead and not just the hand held jobbie alone.

Connect the Brown NMEA (+) lead on the power lead to the Blue NMEA (+) lead on the SH.

Connect the black NMEA (-) lead on the power lead to the Green NMEA (-) on the SH.

For best results use tinned single twisted pair shielded cable of between 28 / 22 AWG and ground the shield at the Garmin end only.
When you’re done, set up the output as per Garmin manual if it doesn’t kick in straight away. Try to include NMEA RMC sentence out of the GPS 45 if available.
