I've succumbed, after the old Philips nav system gave notice, and bought a Standard Horizon CP300.
This opens a whole new world of fun and games and learning for me.
The SH CP300 will be installed at the helm, removable for security. This hopefully means that I can sail single handed and do navigation as I go. Saves bobbing up and down to look at charts and so on.
The rest of the plan is to get the CP300 to talk to my Yeoman and maybe even listen to it too. That way I think I can also plan routes at the nav station and have them come up on the CP300 at the helm [ or am I dreamiong?]
There will be AIS somewhere in the system, coming up on the CP300 - I think. Have to get a suitable bit of kit to provide the necessary info.
It seems that I can get the CP300 to talk to the 'Otto', the Autohelm ST50, and responding accordingly. Any one done this?
There will be a new GPs aerial on the stern talking to the CP300, the Yeoman, the VHF and the NASA log and GPS repeater.
My questions
If I want to put my Samsung pad in the process can I?
What is the most reasonable, reliable AIS kit?
Should I buy a new depth sounder or a gizzmo to convert the output from the NASA unit into something that the CP300 can process?
