Have just seen this on ebay and thought it looked good. But is there a catch? Does it actually work as described? Anyone got any views or experience of the product?
Having zoomed in - it appears to be Bluechart Atlantic (Mapsource) based.
Looks remarkably similar to what I have displayed on my other machine ... study carefully the window title top let corner ... then the title in the dialogue box left side column ...
I would suggest that this is a copyright issue ?
The same if you don't care about copyright can be downloaded free of charge via any P2P file sharing network.
Interesting product if it does what it claims. I very, very occasionally play with Tsunami 99 on my laptop using a GPS mouse, and that works very well in the car (practising), though we've only once used it once on the boat.
This product certainly appears far more up-to-date so I'll be keen to see what people on here think about it after trials. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
It looks remarkably like the Garmin Bluechart system which has a PC based application of which the screenshots seem to be of, which also acts as a tool / interface for downloading map data to a Garmin handheld GPS.
The actual application is called Mapsource and is available from the Garmin website, minus of course the data. Their Marine chart data is called Bluechart, they also have land based topographical data etc that can be added in and all sold separately. The data is unlocked using codes, such codes have been circulating the internet for a long time enabling people to copy and use the Bluechart data on PCs, however if you wanted to download it to your Garmin GPS the code has to correlate with the electronic ID number uniquely embedded in each GPS, which of course the copied / shared keys did not.
More recently Garmin algorithm was cracked and a key generator was released that enabled unlock codes to be generated on the fly rather than the originals being copied/shared around, and the big difference was that the key generator takes into account the unique ID of the handheld thus enabling the data to be downloaded to the handheld also.
I am not condoning software piracy (or sea piracy for that matter /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif ), just trying to explain.
I think Bluechart Atlantic v9.5 was recently (or is due to be) replaced by v10, so its possible he is selling off old version cheap, but the fact its not being sold as that I suspect that it is a pirted copy that is being sold. Bluechart normally sells for around £100 per area, i.e. not the whole country yet alone the whole Atlantic and Pacific!

Thanks Anthony, surprised that he's allowed to get away with selling pirated goods on ebay, but maybe I'm just naieve.

I think ebay rely on people shopping people, rather than checking every item. If someone shops him, he'll get pulled.

Mind you considering his apparently good history would he risk it all to make a few bob on dodgy software. If I had a need I must admit I might be tempted
You may get a more accurate response by asking him, just pointing out that he seems to be a long term E Bay user with a respectable history.
Would you produce fuel for some one you knew was going to sell it illegaly just to make a few extra bucks, if being caught could wreck your legitemate business?

Sorry but the comparison doesn't work. I do not need to give keys / licence to operate my fuel. It is sold open market by the traders who request me to blend.
This ebay product appears to be - well let's be plain - It IS Mapsource / Bluechart proprietary product. It needs a software key to open the charting on PC. Unless a 'crack' has overwritten the file that controls the software.
If the key is ex garmin - then the software does not sell at such low price. If it does - then I think a few people would be upset !
If a crack - then it's downloaded from internet and applied. But it's easily identified by anyone looking at the directory.
Other ebayers selling CM93 ..... Tsunami ..... etc. usually write a box saying that all software is freely available to download of internet and they are purely consolidating to a cd. As if that is a Get out Free card ... it's not. That is why ebay has removed most of those.
It would be interesting to see Garmins response to this guys auction.
I will not be the one to pull the plug on him ... why should I, but only pass on what he is selling and the risk. FAST (Federation Against Software Theft) used to talk about fines in thousands for successful prosecution of people with pirate on their PC's ... jail for sellers / providers !
I'm only commenting ......... I cut and pasted the proof above as pictures showing it's titles etc. Now suggest people go of and investigate real price of legal Mapsource / Bluechart.
Hi everyone. As the person who is the subject of this thread I thought I thought I had better say something. However as I'm sure you will understand I am not really comfortable with discussing my affairs this publicly but want to say that I am happy to discuss in the privacy of email. I can be contacted at jerrycody80 AT hotmail DOT com
For the benefit of all though, I would like to point out that simply downloading cracked copies of MapSource from a torrent site will not give you GPS tracking facilities. On MapSource 9.5 there is no facility for realtime GPS tracking.
There was a mention that v10 was due shortly - version 10 has in fact already been released and is the platform on which the Atlantic Bluechart 2008 update is based - it also has no facility for GPS tracking.
OK - I'm open for discussion privately via e-mail. Being the one who made claim it's possibly suspect software.
I will also dispute the GPS tracking claim on vers. 9.5 /10 having done just that on anothers computer.
Before anyone asks - I will not break his confidence by reporting back here the discussion. You want to know anything - then ask him yourself /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I see little difference between seeling software where the originator has not been paid his dues, and selling fuel where tax has not been paid, no both of these things happen, where do the untaxed fuel sellers get their product?
As for Tsunamis, version 99 which is the one sold on E-Bay is very out of date and is freely downloadable along with it's charts from the Transas web site.
You appear to have been in touch with the seller now so I presume understand the situation, I simply thought it starnge that some one with a substantial trading history would put that at risk by handling dodgy software, especially when he could have set up an acount that e-bay could cancel with no loss to his reputation.
Whilst I would agree that e-bay is not the best at policing all that is for sale, it does seem to respont quite quickly to formal complainst from the bigger brands and one would think that Garmin would keep a pretty good look out for such things.

I understand the bit about software and dues ........ but where does this fuel bit come from ? I blend fuel on behalf of various international companies for distribution to markets incl. EU. Tax on fuel has nothing to do with me or my work ?
What a strange connection to make.
As to whether Tsunami etc. is downloadable of Internet does not make it any less illegal.
Ebay as well has a record of only pulling auctions / sales when other ebay members report the matter or a manufacturer complains. All the time they receive their % from the sale - they are happy.
Garmin ? I am also surprised that they haven't reacted - maybe they know, maybe they don't.
Yes I am corresponding with the guy and still waiting his reply.

There used to be a GPS tracking facility in MapSource, but this was removed a couple of years ago. The facility is now found in Garmin's nRoute application, which is available (at no cost) from the Garmin website.
