Just got round to starting a small job of installing a serial port connection on the nav table so we upload/download info from GPS to laptop.
In an effort to keep the wiring simple, tidy and accessible I would like to break the wiring with a connector for future maintenance. I do not want to use a chocolate block connector and am not a great fan of bullet connectors on small gauge cable.
I recall somebody on another thread saying use BT telephone connectors, question is are they suitable, and can anyone tell me where I can get male and female ones, best the guy at the electrical wholesalers came up with, was buy a BT socket for the female side.
Thanks in Advance

I use a female DIN plug mounted in the chart table and male DIN plug on the flying lead connected to the serial plug for the laptop. It does not matter which pins you use on the DIN plugs as long as they correspond to each other but get the pins on the laptop connection correct. DIN plugs available at Maplins , RS and most hobbie electronics shops.

Thanks Petehb, should have made it a bit clearer, I am OK on serial port connection, I want to make a flexible connection behind the console face so it is a bit easier to detach and gain access to the present spaghetti that passes for a wiring loom

Make sure the tide's out
