I am getting old and want less hassle. I want a 12v oil pump that I can put into the dip stick hole and pump out into a can. Any one know if such a gadget exists or any plans?

Alternatively you can always go for one of the vacuum pump types where you create a vacuum in the receptacle and the oil is sucked into it directly, no messing around with seperate cans, suck it up, pick it up, walk away, job done...i know the big discount houses do them......but they are very convenient..........keith

I agree.

A spherical vacuum pump worked for me. It takes a few minutes to suck out the warm oil but it's easy, efficient and clean.

I got an electric scavenge pump. Works ok, but a bit slow. I've seen the vacuum pumps, and they are good.

I got mine from an advert, £41 including postage. I thought it would be ideal for pumping fuel (diesel) to save me lifting. Could leave the jerry can on the trolley.

I got one from Mailspeed last year and have used it twice. Pumped 9 pints in a few minutes so make such you have enough cans. The plastic pipe has to be fiddled a bit when in the sump but if you keep moving it while pumping you can soon hear it get back into the oil. You need a sealed bag to keep it in afterwards otherwise oil goes everywhere. Cost about £24 I think.

Another vote for the spherical vacuum pumps. Brilliantly simple, clean, and works every time, unlike the wretched brass hand-pumps that let me down every laying-up time!

Sounds like the vaccum pump is the one. Only trouble is that Google has never heard of them. Any suggestions where they might be bought?
