Edible food at boatshow, shock horror!

There is a sea food and Champagne bar by the Sunseaker stand, so I bought my lunch and went to the bar,

"A glass of Champagne please"...

"Sorry we only sell bottles"

"A glass of white wine please"

"Sorry we only sell bottles of those too"

As I was on my own and driving I had to eat my lunch dry without a drink.

Lucky you were not at the Goodwood Revival. In Friday's heat my companion and I became a wee bit thirsty and just found ourselves in a bar that sold rum punches .....at £10 each. Near crazy with thirst I dug out a precious twentyand got back two small beakers full of ice with a mere dribble of watery rum. No threat to drink/drive at all!

I spent 90 quid on. Tea today ...

Capn Sensible beat me by a few years - my first SIBS was in 1980.
And each time I have visited, I always had a rucksack with me for collecting catalogues and bits 'n pieces, and a packed lunch.
The rucksack usually stayed constant in weight - as nosh and drink was demolished other bits were added, although nowadays its easier in many ways to try to keep it fairly light weight (ie just food and water), and collect websites instead...... :)

And if you take a sandwich or 2 and a bottle of water, then you can more easily justify a pint of draught Guinness (which is still cheaper at SIBS than in a pub here).
Pick up a nice packed sarnie from Tescos or Waitrose on the way?

Mention was made above of the little cafe just inside the entrance gate to Mayflower Park, opposite the Red Funnel Terminal - this is a permanent fixture, good for icecreams especially, and I doubt that they put up their prices (very much) for the show.

PS - Richard, what was in your tea?

PSS - 10 quid for a pummy runch is daylight robbery certainly - here a stiff punch with a double measure of rum is about GBP 2.50 - 3.00 generally.

The Guinness was a meal in itself, as usual. And cheaper than £6.50, also topping out at about 420 calories a pint.
Pleased to have spent my lunch hour in the pleasant company of YBWs highest counting poster.

Its simple really. If you go to such events you know your going to get ripped off for food.
Just as they know, they are ripping you off. Captive audience.

I don't think they are ripping you off, they are providing a service for which they are being charged at an extortionate rate, I presume.

An example, Silverstone for the Moto GP was £2k for the weekend. That's a lot of money to recoup from coffee, tea and sandwiches before you get into profit.

Yot owwners, begrudging the cost of a bacon sarnie!

You pay more than £4.50 a pint in your local?! I'd start drinking at home and let the greedy buggers go bankrupt. My local is £2 a pint in Reading!
