My spray hood has vynil edging to the canvas which has cracked. Does anyone know if it is bought specially as a 'U' edging shaped strip to be sewn over the canvas edge, or is flat vinyl strips folded over and sewn on?

Having just replaced the headlining I have some vinyl left over.

Really it should be a new spray hood but that will have to wait a while.

I replaced mine with atificial leather and it has been in the Med sun for the last two year with no noticable effects

I reckon nothing lasts longer in sunlight than acrylic canvas so best to edge with it. I made the mistake of using polyester trapes on the outside of ours. I could just as easily run it inside.

I've not used the artificial leather. Our sprayhood has a steel handle. You could always ring kayospruce for advice.

It's just thin strips folded over, nothing special. I replaced all mine last winter. It needs to be a thickly coated material so that the bare cut edges don't run. Plain acrylic canvas is not suitable in this application because cut edges run.

Centrefold Binding is the stuff you need - available from kayospruce of other suppliers - they also do vinyl edging if you prefer. easy to stitch on and finishes off nicely.

nooo... Marine piping is like you would get in the seam of a cushion... to give that pvc bead look around the edges.. Look closely!

As others have said.. either just cut the pvc.. or if you use an acrylic canvas cut on the diagonal and/or use a hot knife.. or go for the centrefold tape if you want it to be easier to sew.

Maybe if you then warm the vinyl strips a little and put a good fold into them first... they'll be in an easier shape to allow you to sew through.

If you find they're sticking under the machine foot then something like a silicone spray, sprayed onto a rag and then wiped over the vinyl surface first will allow the vinyl to slide under the foot easier. Not needed on the underside!

Do you have UV resistant thread - e.g. Dabond v.69. If not then the threads could be disintegrating in a couple of years time and you might be re-stitching. Have fun.
