+1 for the audible click ashore, though I have to get up close and friendly. Mine also read 0 ashore , though once splashed comes to life . One each side, one measuring water total and one with keel offset. Have always applied AF .

Mine used to read '0' or '--' too when ashore.

Now I get an alarm 'depth sensor not present'.

When I want to select 'data sources' from the network, the transducer does show up when I want to select 'speed' but not when I want to select 'depth'.

Nothing so high tech on mine unfortunately/fortunately, simple Stowe Navigtor and two separate displays ( cockpit and chart table.
My click can be heard from the outside, with your ear , well my ear ,within a couple of inches. Not tried this method afloat though.

Straight into the backbone (Intruments - plotter, autopilot, displays - are B&G. Sensors are Airmar).
Are you able to view the N2k data going round the system? Might help with problem solving.

IF it is the 800, there are quite a few reports of failures on the web, particularly for theN2k version (mine is 0183 version and has largely been good). Think the model number is written on it somewhere.

May well be worth asking B&G or Airmar for trouble solving guide.

Yep - everything else (wind, plotter, AIS, autopilot, ...) still work fine.

May well resort to that.
She's going back in Thursday PM. So, going to keep fingers (and everything else) crossed and hope the thing comes back to life once back in the water.

Will report back on Thursday.

My system has wifi output, and some software can view the raw 2k sentences, so if there is missing data rather than set-up or listening it is obvious. Perhaps certain plotters can as well?
Presumably it is a removable transducer in the water? From your description I can see why you are concerned.
Please post when you are back in so we know the outcome.

Just a quick update:
Launched late Thursday evening.
I was hoping that my echosounder would rise from the dead once back in the water.
No such luck.
However after about 15 minutes, it showed up again on the NMEA 2K network.
When I went into system/settings and manually assigned the echosounder to provide depth readings all was well with the world again.
I want to thank you all for the advice/suggestions and reassurance.
Much appreciated.
