Yes, very difficult to comment on this thread without breaking the "ban" on current affairs. That's where I was coming from ?. We should not be supporting Russian products.

I thought Planar were the alternative and better option to cheapo Chinese copies? I have not read the whole thread...My 25 year old Eberspacher D3LCompact will have to be replaced as the ECU is no longer available (unless anyone know where I can get one) with the M2 D4L changeover kit. I suppose the Planar ones would not be a good choice now, not least because of questionable supply of spare parts.
They certainly were until Russia decided to get the tanks out. Unfortunately the threat of global nuclear war tends to require a change of stance from simply whats best and cheapest for the boat. Obviously that's not Planar's fault, but the current plan must be to remove Russia from the world economy and that, unfortunately, means cutting off innocent Russian businesses in the hope that they take action locally to help rectify the situation.I thought Planar were the alternative and better option to cheapo Chinese copies? That just about sums up my feeling. However , if they become Latvian………?They certainly were until Russia decided to get the tanks out. Not up with current affairs... is their not a forumite that stocks and sells Planar? Vic's son? They certainly were until Russia decided to get the tanks out. Well of course, depending how that came about. Simply shipping through a convenient country doesn't change a thing though. That just about sums up my feeling. However , if they become Latvian………?
I'm impressed you've managed to avoid current affairs to that extent. Yes indeed there is, and he'd do well to come up with a plan B, same as anyone supporting Chelsea football club. Not up with current affairs... is their not a forumite that stocks and sells Planar? Vic's son?
Unfortunately not. It is very unfortunate for many Russian companies to be dragged into something that was not of their doing. Can you suggest an ideologically sound alternative source for such items?
Yes understand that but it will takNo money spent on a Planar will, at this point, reach the Russian economy. And good luck trying to avoid Chinese components if you want to avoid supporting a state that has a million Uighurs in it's 're-education' camps. Moral purchasing is no easy matter.
Plenty of good used ebers still available. D1LCcompact still viable but D2 and D4 range perhaps more so. Buy one with the 'later' ECU (more reliable) These have the main lead wrapped in cloth tape rather than encapsulated rubber. Lots of life in these models and eco friendly rather than making new.An admirable stance, at least in principle.

As far as I can see, China is worse in terms of human rights but hasn't invaded anywhere yet. It's hard to avoid Chinese products though. It’s not about money it’s about pressure. They are made in Russia as far as I can tell and as such a Russian company with Russian employees will feel pressure if no new orders come in. More so if existing stocks abroad cease to be purchased. If the whole supply chain suffers that pressure increases, it’s not nice but it seems necessary. The hope is that this will encourage the Russian people to step up and help stop this madness. China have not yet launched a full scale attack on another nation as far as I know so not in the same league.
So, leaving moral issues to one side for the moment……
Unfortunately can’t get to my boat at the moment as CYC causeway being repaired so found specs of existing D3LC on line - 3Kw/3.5 Kw on boost. Mine has 2 outlets on Sadler 32. The drop in Eberspacher replacement Is the D4 Airtronic. What would be Planar equivalent? The existing “hard points” are the exhaust skin fitting, the fuel feed from the diesel tank and the trunk ink/outlets. I assume that’s not a problem with the Eber D4 changeover kit but as I’m not doing it myself if a lot of stuff has to be replaced the extra labour cost might outweigh the cost of hardware.
I assume a new unit might be slightly more efficient in both diesel consumption and current draw?
Nobody could argue with your last sentence but there is a place called Tibet......As far as I can see, China is worse in terms of human rights but hasn't invaded anywhere yet. It's hard to avoid Chinese products though.
Eberspacher and Webasto are made in China. Helps a lot that you make the original when it comes to making cheap copies!Nobody could argue with your last sentence but there is a place called Tibet......
There are actually two moral inflection points in my decision - I might choose not to buy something (currently) made in Russia and the guy doing the job might choose not to fit it. I don't actually know where Eberspachers are made but probably not in Russia. The Eber M2 D4L Changeover kit, which is now in stock, is 2.5X the price but when you include necessary add ons the gap is somewhat less. And knowing my guy his labour charges for something he's not familiar with might be spectacular.
