********!! Eberspacher

Do the basic checks, which cost nothing, volts amps and fuel (clogged internal filters). Before removing the beast.
Is there 13.8v and 20 amps available, any hidden wiring joints getting hot because of corrosion resistance.
Special attention to any fuse holders /bits of chocolate block or blade fuses/ wiring added by previous owners.
In my case the faffing abour removing my old Eber, sending it to the repair shop and finding out the cost of the bits was enough to tell them to keep my old heater and order a new Planar.
The thought of simply having to do it all again in the near future was the clincher.
As an aside those little fuel pumps very rarely fail.simple to test, just apply 12v the pump should audibly click and if you hold the body you can feel the pulse.

Well! I will check to see if its the control or something obvious today, but failing this, especially as I don't intend to keep the boat much longer it's probably Chinese. Have been surfing the web and there are hundreds of them at a bit over £100 but then I saw this one at £68...... https://www.amazon.co.uk/talogca-Ac...203399&sprefix=diesel+heater,aps,154&sr=8-113

My question is " are the Chinese ones all the same?" Should I just order it, or is £68 just too good? I have always thought if something is too good to be true it probably is. Can anyone with a Chinese success story tell me which supplier they used please?

I've just ordered that one, I couldn't resist at that price just to see what it is like! I have tested several of these heaters and they have all been fine, however I have never been able to establish a supplier who could provide sales or spares continuity or real technical information. As a one off private purchase I would recommend that you just go for it...we can compare notes!

I take it that 20 years ago this would have been an Eber or Wabasto ?? To fill the ambulance with black smoke it would need to be severely damaged or improperly installed surely? Don't think it could have been Chinese or Russian 20 years ago......

Pretty sure from what the engineers said they were Eberspatchers and can't comment on installs or servicing other than repeat trips to the workshop to get them diagnosed or feed.

Please do report back! Btw the silencer pictured is probably not gas tight and shouldn't be used on a boat

Hmm... Problem is that it is obviously coming direct from China as delivery is 7th-17th December. Others are at least UK stock and available within days.
Have just returned from boat. Checked control - OK, nothing physically wrong. All connections good. The ECU has a plastic sheath over outlet cable which previous post suggest was one suspected of failure. I think its very likely that this is the problem. Frankly I can't be arsed to bugger about with it. If I can get a new one for £120 I am not inclined to pay an "expert" loadsamoney to tell me it is f**ed either!! I know that for free.....

I had a similiar thing with my Webasto a couple of weeks ago. It stopped working after about an hour. The manual was not on board so downloaded stuff on my phone and tried to understand the fault code flashes. Couldn't count fast enough but thought probably the glow pin. Went home to order a new one and a thought occurred. Back to the boat to check, no fuel!
Check the bloomin obvious first.:(

I have bought two and both have been just fine.

The one in my boat

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12V-5000...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

But seems a bit pricey now at £146

The one in a friend's camper the seller is not currently offering a listing.

Thank you , have ordered one, be rude not to at that price.

Low battery. They won’t start below a certain voltage supply. Can’t remember but over 12 comes to mind. Likely someone has said this by now.

The link is confusing. It opens with a picture of a fuel pump and quotes a price of £10.49 and suggests you are getting a complete (non marine) Talgocha heater with free delivery. I'm tempted to buy and see what I receive.

Just start the engine(s) to top up the batteries get 13.8 volts and enough amps to get the glowplug hot. Once Ardic/Eber started turn engines off again.
Used this wheeze on my old Princess 33 for yonks until summoning up the courage to replace all the batteries and therefore not filling the moorings with smoke
Problem solved.

We can compare notes!
As well as the cheapo Chinese heater adds I found one for 'genuine' after market Eber spares. I have ordered a replacement fan motor for a D4 which has developed a whine. The part is described as non original but made as a direct replacement for the original part. It does at least seem to have the correct plug!. Priced at £12 it seems better than buying and fitting new bearings to the old one.
readers may well suggest that this will be of inferior quality but many respected manufacturers are using motors made in China.

I think genuine eber/webasto fuel pumps are around the 50/60 gbp figure.
