Do the basic checks, which cost nothing, volts amps and fuel (clogged internal filters). Before removing the beast.
Is there 13.8v and 20 amps available, any hidden wiring joints getting hot because of corrosion resistance.
Special attention to any fuse holders /bits of chocolate block or blade fuses/ wiring added by previous owners.
In my case the faffing abour removing my old Eber, sending it to the repair shop and finding out the cost of the bits was enough to tell them to keep my old heater and order a new Planar.
The thought of simply having to do it all again in the near future was the clincher.
As an aside those little fuel pumps very rarely fail.simple to test, just apply 12v the pump should audibly click and if you hold the body you can feel the pulse.
