Smoky problem solved on my D4 today.... Smoke was rather visible from the exhaust but a new atomizer (gauze) solved that issue. Smoke free again!

Regarding Tools.. You are lucky you have the D3LC...

If it was like my airtronic D4 described here you find the wire does not detach from the glow pin and you need a special socket (with a split up the side) just to remove it!

If you find you need the tool, let me know - I'm in Southsea.

Final thought.. The heat exchanger.. The manual probably says replace after ten years. If it just needs a decoke Krueger will take yours, clean it and give it back at a modest cost.

ahh, sounds good! im hopeing to have a go either this week or at the weekend. you mite find ill be sending you a pm if i have problems!

as with many items on a boat theres allways a list, at the moment its middway on my list because it works!

We have a D4, new in October 2009, and it too gives out a big cloud of white-ish smoke on start-up, maybe for 30 secs or so, before it all disperses and the heater functions normally.

Given we have used the unit so little, can we too be suffering from a faulty/dirty gauze?

And like Stu says - if the exhaust if dubious- replace the dual skinned pipe and fittings/clips - making sure it has a fireproof cover - and goes near nothing on its's way to the skin fitting to the outside world.
Things like fenders put hastily into the aft locker are quite happy to melt themselves to the exhaust pipe!!!!

Graeme

As are fenders hung on the pushpit rail, over the Eber exhaust outlet !!! (Oops:( )
