Has any one tried fitting a fuel pump (Webasto 9012868C) offered by a large auction site to an Eberspacher D4? They claim it will fit some Eberspacher heaters? Its half the price of the Eberspacher one!!
You do need to be a bit careful; the pumps give a different “dose” per pulse from the control board. The pulse interval will remain the same but you may well get too much or too little fuel and though the unit will still work it may well coke up earlier than usual (too much fuel) or cut out due to overheat (too little). There is a way to check the dosage by using a measuring jar, the process is explained in many of the manuals so it is possible to satisfy yourself before actually running the thing. Of course you will need to buy one to check.
I bought a genuine Eberspacher one of Fleaby for about £50 from the CI's. The agent in the UK wanted £165 + VAT and then labour to fit it! It took me 15 minutes tio install it, and most of that was sorting out the botched plumbing runs from the original 'factory' installation.
The Webasto 9012868C pump is completely unsuitable for a D2 or D4.
One was fitted to a D2 and it smoked excessively.
On our recommendation a fuel quantity test was performed.
The test should give under 5cc, measured quantity of fuel was 15cc, about 3 times as much as the proper pump.
