Easter plan A.. Channel crossing

Only reason questioned Cherbourg ,was as you were heading to Alderney , seams you will head back on your self from Weymouth , but if that's your plan ,can understand , have a great time and look forward to catching up when your back

Tim et all we're planning on getting to Alderney on Sunday and with an Easterly forecast i was concerned it might be a bit bobby. Also catching the East going tide will probably (at our cruising speed) be more direct than Alderney. However, Dillette and Carteret look very atractive and I'm now thinking of waiting for the tide in Alderney and going there instead. Are there tide tables available online for Dillette and Carteret? I had a quick look at the pilot book last night and Carteret was Dover - 4.40 so could go Saturday morning... couldn't I?

I’m not sure if you think your passage could be a bit rough, or that Alderney might be a bit lively in an Easterly. It could be both, but I’d most certainly not want to be in Alderney if anything above a 2 or 3 from the NE is forecast.

Alderney is a real delight, I haven’t been for a few years but can’t wait to return this summer.

As this is will be my first time crossing in a motor boat it's hard to tell what the conditions might be. In a sailing boat, even though your at an angle and freezing cold cold the boat remains quite firm and stable.
Seems to be North Easterlies in the forecast and we spent a night in Alderney in these conditions before so I think at the moment we'll plan for Cherbourg and then onto Guernsey with some exploring on the way.

TBH, I think you need to be buying alot of fuel to make the detour from SPP and the tides etc, for Sampsons to make sense.
Just note, in the past I have had anything up to several hours wait to actually get fuel at SPP on occasion...my advice would be NOT to make refuelling part of your departure schedule.

It’s only about 3nm from SPP to St Sampsons, and you’re always given a time slot when phoning to book the fuel. The most I’ve ever waited is maybe 15 minutes. But I’ve never refuelled in SPP, always St Sampson.

Thanks Piers, having just filled up in Cherbourg we're looking to make savings wherever possible :D.
We're here for a few days if you want to say hi?

Hi, Play d'eau is in St Sampsons, having been lifted out at Marine & General for her annual beauty treatments. The plan is to re-launch tomorrow morning (Tuesday) but the weather is not condusive for the return to Beaucette which has a total aversion to E'ly wind given the swell it creates across the entrance.

Given the finishing work yet to do, I'll be on board all day. Are you in Victoria marina?

By the way, St Sampsons is only 2 miles N of St Peter Port and really easy to make for refuelling.

Yes we're in Victoria Marina. Helen is running the 10k race today so we'll be up that way to catch a bus to the start line, it finishes somewhere near you. I'll keep an eye out for you and pm my phone number.
Cheers
Colin

Hi Col. Do call if you are near St Sampsons. If I'm on board I have a key to the yard so do come and see Play d'eau. I'll pm my number.
