East Coast Forum Flag of Awesomeness

If it's the only flag you're flying at the spreaders, put it where you like. The potential to give offense comes when you want to fly more than one, because of the concept of seniority.

The starboard spreader comes first, starting with the top and working down. After that, the same on the other side.

A courtesy ensign should be considered senior to any other flag flown at the spreaders and so belongs at the top of the starboard hoist - I generally leave it by itself.

Seniority of club flags, if you wear more than one, is generally taken to be oldest club first, but it gets tricky if you want to fly a blue and/or defaced ensign..... Some clubs even have a rule requiring you to fly their burgee in "home waters", but in the case of ECF, see rule1.

What a delightful post, thank you, we English are a wonderful species. It reminds me of a quote by the outgoing USA ambassador - "I love England but I can never be sure I'm addressing even an envelope correctly"

Having met some Americans, he probably wasn't!

On a point of order now please. Is the ECF pennant 'superior' to the ECP pennant (that's the one Dick promises to give me but never does). Assuming that he does give me an ECP Pennant so I can publicise his book (?) do I fly it above or below the ECF one?

Maybe the ECF ensign should be considered a regional ensign and we could expect all visitors to the East Coast to fly it, particularly foreign visitors just below the red ensign courtesy flag.
For instance in the Azores visitors are expected to fly the Azorean Ensign [a beautiful swooping eagle] below the Portuguese Courtesy Ensign.
Aren't we meant to fly the Scottish Saltire from our Stbd spreaders when visiting that region? :-)

Whaddya mean I haven't given you an ECP flag?? Haven't I???
Oh.
Oh dear.
That particular brain cell obviously passed on. I will assign another one to the task!

I am a bit of a novice to club flags, what is the etiquette? Should it be displayed on the port or starboard side? Should it be displayed when not on the boat or after sunset etc etc? Can anyone help me with this one?

Aaah, knew I had it somewhere, from the days when the mags had some useful freebies.

Well the whole process of acquiring one has been made so simple and straightforward for us that one could say it's not only a Flag of Awesomeness, but also a Flag of Convenience - which effectively means an ensign, doesn't it?

/Crawling ends.

My pennant arrived this morning. Many thanks to the production team and looking forward to seeing others out and about this year and next with our own Masonic handshake!
