East Coast Forum Flag of Awesomeness

Tricky to answer your question accurately. Each is hand made and they are a small 'cottage' industry but we have the advantage that they are known to a forumite and a local club for doing it properly and at a reasonable price. They have started manufacturer and they will send them to me in batches. I will immediately send them out to individual members as soon as I get them (I have packaging ready prepared here already). I expect to get the first batch next week but it is a bit difficult (read impossible) to say when we might get to flags 62 and 63. I will update the forum as things progress and I had intended to send them out in the order that Mike (Javelin) has listed on the running spreadsheet that he sends me updated from time to time which seems to me to be the fairest.

Attach it to your cap shroud I guess.

67 now and counting...................

I am a bit of a novice to club flags, what is the etiquette? Should it be displayed on the port or starboard side? Should it be displayed when not on the boat or after sunset etc etc? Can anyone help me with this one?

I really don't think there are any hard and fast rules for association flags. Most people would fly them from port spreader along with other bunting that has been accumulated over the years...RNLI flags etc.

Mine will be flown from radar post on starboard aft quarter.

It is only the ensign which should be flown in day light when the owner is on board.

Be aware that flag etiquette threads tend to generate as much heat and light as anchor threads and are best avoided.

If it's the only flag you're flying at the spreaders, put it where you like. The potential to give offense comes when you want to fly more than one, because of the concept of seniority.

The starboard spreader comes first, starting with the top and working down. After that, the same on the other side.

A courtesy ensign should be considered senior to any other flag flown at the spreaders and so belongs at the top of the starboard hoist - I generally leave it by itself.

Seniority of club flags, if you wear more than one, is generally taken to be oldest club first, but it gets tricky if you want to fly a blue and/or defaced ensign..... Some clubs even have a rule requiring you to fly their burgee in "home waters", but in the case of ECF, see rule1.
