Thames River conditions

Website is called thamesboating info

Flow rates at Bourne End and graphs of rainfall from 4 stations in the Thames catchment. Brize Norton, Benson, Wycombe and Heathrow.

Website was constructed by a gentleman living at Bourne end. It is centred on Bourne End so not relevant to everyone. However the amount of water flowing through Maidenhead and the Jubilee River is a pretty good general guide to conditions on the River overall. The flow at Bourne End is calculated from Maidenhead bridge and Taplow flow gauges.

The interesting thing about it is that the flow rate is shown on graphs and the bars change colour at a particular level. I don't know for sure but I think this is calculated rather than relying on a feed from the EA.

I don't know why the levels are not displaying but the more useful data if you are considering moving a boat is the flow rate.

It looks like Cookham goes onto red boards at around 120 cumecs.

Gaugemap.co.uk is good for levels and flow rates.

That Thamesboating website has some good data/graphs, that is exactly what the EA one should have for each reach, ironic that it is constructed using EA data!

I don't think the EA are all that interested in use of the River for navigating. This is obviously even less of a priority out of the normal boating season.

One could suggest there have been targeted funding cuts but another argument is that the management has become full of people who only have one priority and it is nothing to do with boats.
