When a petition gets to 100,000 it will be debated in parliament! No it won't, not if they don't want to. The fair fuel petition hit well over 100,000 but will not be debated due "lack of time". Tory, Labour, Liberal, what does it matter they are all liars feathering their own nests.

Of course they lie, they are furiously feathering. In fact it's an art form.

It wasn't until The Representation of the People Act of 1948 that we had proper voting it this country. Our betters having brought it in after 150 years of pressure from the people and much wriggling.

So what has this done for the poor I ask you?
After all those years we still have homeless people and old pensioners dying of the cold in winter.

It tells you on the front page - it becomes "eligible" and "could" be debated. Not a "will be" to be seen.

Perhaps our decision to phrase it one way and advertise it another, has worked well.

Dare I suggest that the wording has nothing to do with MPs: like most things in government, it was devised by civil servants for the benefit of civil servants.

The phrase "civil servants" in this context does not include military, naval, air force, police, ambulance, fire or prison service staff, teachers, local government officials etc., nor does it include anyone whose duties primarily involve cleaning, serving food or beverages, the physical maintenance of premises or equipment, or driving other people around.

Its just neat way of letting swivel eyed foam flecked ranters vent their incandescent rage in a non self harming way so that normal thinking people do not have to listen to them in the kitchens at parties,club bar rooms and in internet forums begining with "L"

I think that petitions, either real or virtual, have little history of achieving anything. More about making signatories feel that they are doing something than convincing those in authority to implementing change - quite low down on the scale of protest and less discomfort than camping out or a hunger strike.
