e-Borders; do the UKBA know about real life?

Driving liecnce is no good, you should have taken your borth certificate.

I wonder if they will repeal that bit of legislation when e-borders come in. If not you could let your passport expire and just use your birth certificate.

Madness it maybe but it will happen, UKBA staff are probably monitoring this forum to see all possible problems that the experts here can identify, rest assured that if you have to text or phone it will be an 0870 number :) :) :)
I have serious doubts that any government dept monitors any fora to greater understand the implications of their decisions!!

As you can read in another thread, calling an 0870 number from a landline is just 5.8p a minute, a cheap price to pay for ease of reporting.

E Borders- SNAFU

The FOI reply I got said that VHF was not a reporting option, so that's all academic. internet site only.

First thing to remember; UKeBA is a new unit, with part of the Customs side of HMRC(itself a recent merger) and the Home Office, esp the Immigration side.

Those of you with a military or civil service background will remember what you do with all the sh@@te people when asked to supply a draft?

Yep, hence the sudden heavy handedness in the Thames Approaches that the RYA has been challenging, and that ridiculous "Sea Patrol" business with the anchored Russians(Thames Approaches again).

Internet only- not a surprise- in my last years before my retirement, good field Compliance people were hardly let out of the office to do the job as boots on the ground- meetings led by their "transferrable compentancies skilled" Managers( ie knew nothing about the real job and how it's done, the problems, uncommon sense solutions, etc) were more important (to the Manager's CV and Charr-eah). Surprise, surprise, Yields and pulls have been dropping year on year.

I was lucky to get out 18 months early due to yet another reorg, but I left a lot of good, experienced people behind Pi@@ssed off with the job- they don't care any more and dont offer any information cos they get slapped down as dangerous(to the "Intel-led" "Manager"), and those "Managers" know nothing of Real Life outside of climbing the pole, using spiked logging boots on their staffs shoulders.

So soft targets will be used to reach 'Targets' which will ensure the "Manager" reaches bonus- ie Those poor Russkies dying for a fag swinging to a hook, yotties forced to alter plans by stress of weather.

Meanwhile, anti-UK forces will be loading enriched Uranium or noxious bio/chem elements, or Class A's(just as destructive, and the idiots pay you for them too) into containers heading for Marchwood, but any decent Compliance teams will be in yet another Orientation meeting or turning over some poor yotties just blown in to the Hamble 3hrs late in their filed passage plan on a F8, when those loads are swung ashore and lorried off for detonation.

Oh Bugger it, what do i know about it all, 36.5 years in Compliance of one sort or another? I'm going to bed, stone cold sober, too.

We all know what will happen. The system will be swamped and break down, the UKBA will ignore and gloss over the problem, until there actually is an incident, where they will try and shift the blame ...

What sort of incident? I though the idea was to keep tabs on who is crossing the borders. Nothing useful in the legislation like helping SAR locate us when things have gone pearshaped.

The sort of incident where one political party accuses the other of not having a clue of who is coming and going in the Country. Of course there is little point in knowing and using our money to run such a system is outrageous. Anybody seriously dishonest individual will get round the eborders checking with little difficulty. But it all sounds good on the floor of the House. It makes life a lot easier at PMQs.

Spot on, absolutely spot on- last 15 yrs min, it's been government by sound bite regardless of Party, in or out of Govt, after all if you are paying yr kids to be yr Office researchers, you cannot expect them to actually work for the money we gave you?
