e-bay prices - having a laugh?

To be fair they are "make an offer". I have bought "make an offer" stuff, admittedly not boaty for a lot less than the top price and got an "accept" remarkably quickly, such that even at the low price I offered I felt I had left money on the table.

A pair for £750 seems more reasonable. Self tailers as well.
I agree, that seems a far fairer price, but sadly they are now sold.

Every time we fly the spinnaker, I realise that we are short of a pair of winches in the cockpit. I don't want to throw money at them, so a pair of second hand ones seems the way ahead.

On another note, I seem to remember a winch sizing guide somewhere, but I can't find it on the Lewmar website. Anyone know where a size guide for winches is?

You can have even more fun by searching to see the amazing prices they actually got on completed sales ;)
Often more than retail

That's true - I sold a second hand tool on eBay for more than you can buy it new. I think some people don't bother to check! More money than sense!

There is a bit of an assumption that "It's on Ebay so it's going to be cheap!" to some people.
I've found a few things on ebay then gone to the manufacturers site and could them cheaper and with cheaper delivery charges.

That's the other thing on Ebay you have to be careful of (well if you're not too bright anyway). The item may be marginally cheaper but the delivery charge may be £10 or £15 etc where getting it from a 'normal' online retailer may not charge or may only be a fiver etc.

There are some on Ebay that are just bonkers with the prices. :D

Dread to think what price eBay is going to charge the vendor if he does sell them at that price. I sold some gear on ebay the other week using my brother's account and I was staggered when he told me eBay took £66 for the pleasure!

Yep 10% final valuation fee plus listing fees if I remember right. It adds up to alot.

some of the frustrating parts....

I have been looking - off and on - for Lewmar 44STs (or larger) for quite a while - in the US.. prices are quite high - even on ebay... there has been many times that I have seen postings in the UK - that I would go for - and then we get to shipping - it is quite difficult..

By contrast, I can by Teak Kits in Thailand and electronics from South China and them delivered for very reasonable post costs. I would think that the high costs for UK shipping (to the central US) drives down a lot of final seller prices...

If there is a good solution, it would be nice to know about it... In truth, actual shipping cost is really volume driven (not really weight) and based on the transport of multimode shipping containers. It is pretty inexpensive - in other words...
