Personally I find all the political parties as bad as each other. They all talk it up but given a chance in power & they'll screw it up as quick as the next man.

The only person I know that could run the country properly is ME.

They\'re all tosspots anyway!

Absolutely .. just that labour have a tendencyto raise taxes and lose control of cost and increase red tape .. the other party has other idiotsyncronsies!

Personally I beleive that anybody who wishes to be a politician by that very ambition should be debarred!

Re: They\'re all tosspots anyway!

Most of us on moorings in our area don't have the luxury of being able to get red fuel. We have to pay the fuel tax as we carry diesel to the boat (from home). Its only when we stay at a marina can we get the low tax diesel. If I could afford a marina I’m sure I and many others would use one, its the better off who are benefiting from the low taxed marine diesel.

I nick most of my Red Diesel out of the Heating Oil Tank at work.

It is even a bit cheaper than the Marina's charge.

Jimi. Or is it Jimima. We've been subjected for months of you trying to pass yourself off as female or some thing in between. A subject I do not find particularly amusing. Your contributions on anything remotely of interest to these forums are at best limited. I take it that now you have exploited your interest in being controversial as to your sexuality. You have now found other ways to be equally controversial and I take it that this is the reason for your post. IMHO of course.

Come on

Haydn, if your gonna jump in with a bit of moral support surely you can come up with something a bit more constructive, can't you power your boat on methane from Harry's dung? That'd save you a bob or two!

but red diesel tax is where it starts, not ends

French flag boat pays vat on diesel, the pump operators have no problem with red and white diesel and so there's no problm with the harmonisation (upwards, to what they do).

Then, to also harmonise taxes, they register all boats with a number, and all pay luxury tax, at the rate of about €380 per meter per annum.

Even the "i can't beleive it's not tory" govt is having trouble saying that they need the money, or to what it would be put. They collect around £80 billion per year from taxing motorists but spend less than £4billion on roads, or less than £2bilion since 1997, but now announced "new" schemes that were only the same ones as before, and also right in the middle of Cheriegate.

I think that politicians have got it into their heads that they are good for us, that we'd be lost without them. Like trains, we need fewer, not more. They also seem to have misunderstood the phrase "the power to raise taxes from the population" which they seem to believe means they will go up all the time.

I also beleive that they have an engine tax which is why so many French sail boats do'nt have engines (Gallic tightness ..whatever next!). I've been told that is why so many French sailors are so adept at handling under sail at close quarters .. I prefer to believe though that they learnt these skills when chasing Hornblower and they've been passed down in the genes along with aaaaaaaaaaarghh

Maybe historically boats went outside of territorial waters and were no longer considered to be liable for excise duty ???

In France if you purchase-lease a boat that is category A ie unlimited off-shore use, you are deemed for tax purposes (VAT) to spend 50% of your time abroad and so the VAT rate is halved. There is a smaller abatement for a category B.

I suggest you contact your local fuel distributors who will probably tell you where you can buy red diesel. There are depots around the country that keep supplies to service farmers and plant operators. This is often cheaper than at marina fuel berths.

Your Wife

Is the swimming pool filled with red diesel and why did she want to have all those off road vehicles anyway. I used red diesel once in a petrol car - didn't really work too well. I also had a citroen once which had four green plastic balls distributed around its person - they made it go up and down - well they did until I filled them with water. Mr Blair is a nice man - he is kind to wide mouthed frogs and doesn't kim look different to the way he writes.
Anyway - its only money

Re: contribution to Lights and buoys

Boaters all contribute already due to the extortionate activiies of the Crown Estates, who have increased their take on moorings hugely - and dump it is central government funds.
