Seems like a great system if their brochure is factual. I like the idea of just breaking the supporting pole and dumping the whole thing in the sea behind you. if it really is that easy, (May foul self steering gear)

Boat just down the pontoon from me in Neyland marina had one on a cat and where raving about it, reconed it had a very low kickin speed when in wind mode. My concern might be size, there is a lot of it and you cant take it of on stow below decks in a storm or when laying up (plus cost! you can get 2 aquagens for that price)
Size is not a problem!!!! The wind driven part quickly breaks down to easy to stow bits. It has large blades so spins more slowly than most (thus is quieter than a single aquagen and much quieter than two) It produces about the same amount of power as 2x aquagens. It has less drag than a single aquagen, and doesnt tow a large shark bait /forums/images/icons/smile.gif design means that it can be fitted with a wind driven steering :
You do not say what your intentions are e.g. long term/distance cruising etc, but if that's what you do intend, I would consider two units; one for wind, the other for water, if only to avoid the risk of having all your 'amps' in one basket. Sods law will undoubtably b**ger one or other in due course, but you'll still have some power generation left. Whilst I'm sure the Duogen is all it's claimed to be, when it stops working (and all marine kit does sooner or later) you've got nothing.
Sound advice - also looked at Duogen, and decided against it for that very reason.
Opted for AirX windgenerator, Aquagen towed generator & for good measure, a 54W solar pannel. By and large I should now generate more electricity than I could use.
Suspect the tropics will make my fridge more power hungry - and there's no way I'm doing without THAT. Like my beer cold.
<hr width=100% size=1>Experience is a good teacher, but she sends in terrific bills.
Had my DuoGen since they were first launched. Its been through several detail design changes over the last couple of years and it is now an extremely competent piece of kit and IMHO is now a realistic competitor to the more established brands.
It does "exactly what it says on the tin". It is virtually silent in wind mode compared to an Airmarine (even the new AirX). It is vastly simpler to use in water mode than a towed unit. Very quick to switch between modes - even for short lunch stops at anchor, which means you will actually make more use of it!
You're welcome to view mine if you find yourself in Plymouth at any time.
