We are away on a narrow boat for a week at the end of May, SWMBO wants to know if there will lots of chicks about?
ie; baby ducks etc, will it be the right time of year?

Cheers

There are Cygnets about en masse at Caversham, I fear they will be more like Min Swans in a month or so.

Might be a few though!

Cheers, we will be on the Coventry canal and keeping an eye open for all types of wildlife /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Oh yes.
I did a narrow boat trip years ago on the Stratford Canal with my daughters and their friends, all early teens or younger. Saw loads of ducklings and when we got to Startford they were horrified that I had Duck one night in Fatty Arbuckles Restaurant!

Loads of them on the Thames right now and they are still very small . Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww there so cute /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Yep! One of my ducks has 10 only hatched in last 2 days. I haven't been able to kill one yet to see what they taste like /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

is it just coincidence that you can eat as much duck as you like at The Yangtze in windsor for 12.50 a head (1/2 price for kids) and river/duck ratio in the same area is on the decline?

There's a number of small ducklings, at the moment, in Stratford on the opposite side of the river from us. I've had to get the air rifle out today as there were two magpies stalking 3 very tiny ones - their mother was nowhere to be seen.

Do you have to kill them?

Just a little nibble may be enough /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
