Has anyone found a workable online/downloadable sim or tutorial for DSC?

The RYA online course is not free, but has been performance tested for a long time. Iy includes a test at the end to see if youa re ready to take the exam.

Depends what you are looking for.
If you want a few practical examples take a look here: http://www.kystradio.no/privat/sertifikat/test-deg-selv/english-vhf-simulator/
It tells you what it wants done, and if you come along and hold down the red button for five seconds instead of calling a routine call like it told you it will tell you what was wrong.
Of course no two VHFs are identical - so it may be almost as bad to learn on the wrong set as to not learn at all!
If you wanted to actually speak and maybe it voice recognise what you said and confirm you said the right things... maybe in 100 years time!
Or if you wanted it to call a mate on another PC - then I think some of the training centre ones may do that. Certainly the training centres have proper simulators.

Oh but...
I just flicked to one of its examples which was to do a mayday relay. on a Class D set no such thing exists so you are told to use a DSC Urgency Call to initiate the call then voice call MayDay Relay. It told me I was wrong - I should just have voice called on 16.
