I need to drop the keel (and grounding plate) out of my Southerly 115. Can anyone recommend a yard in the Solent area that has experience of doing this?
Had our keel assembly dropped out by a yard in Portugal. There is no great mysticism to it. Have the boat lowered onto the ground or low blocks etc. Get inside and remove all the keel bolts and then have the yard simply lift the boat off the keel. More scary than difficult and it might well be worth having the mast dropped beforehand as the loss of all your ballast will make it a bit top heavy.... Putting it all back together is just the reverse process. Most important is a yard with a very good crane/hoist operator.
All depends on how much you want to do yourself or how much you are willing to spend to have someone else do it. Feel free to pm me with any more detailed questions.
