Another solution would be to tap one or both of the holes in the nut, and use hex-headed grub screw(s) to lock the nut onto the shaft.

In reverse that set up has the ability to wind itself off the shaft ??

I think the grub screws would be the easiest and probably the best method of securing the nut.

Many years ago I put a boat into reverse and the prop fell off, new prop only been fitted a week, the engineer (Ha!) said he always uses nyloc nuts to fit props on. Cost him £700 for a new prop :)

The shaft nut is tightened to quite a high torque so I doubt it and the effort to undo the nut is higher than with standard shake proof or split washers. Darglow are supplying them as standard with Featherstream props and, at the cost of those, they wouldn't want claims when they fell off. I had never seen them before and must admit to being a bit wary at first but, after 2 years there's no sign of slackening.

Hmmm.... Ok but experience and the views of others on here say it needs some form of locking to prevent it finding the bottom of the sea ?? :)

No one is saying that about cam nuts, they're referring to other methods of fixing. Personally, if I was the OP, I'd just take the easy route and run a drill through the existing hole in the nut and splitpin it.
