Been helping my friend with his boat, it has Twin kad 43s and DPE outdrives. The portside outdrive went up to the beach position, but we haven't been able to get it down by pressing the down button on the dash board, we can here the trim motor whirling round, but it refuses to come down. We found a relay for it, behind the dashboard, so replaced that with a new one, but still nothing, we then crawled through the engine bay to get at the trim motor, the fluid was not low and we tried swapping the relays, but it still refuses to come down, we even had someone standing on the drive leg while we pressed the down button, but still nothing.

The only way we were able to get it down was to undo one of the hydraulic lines going to the motor and letting the fluid out while someone pushed the drive downwards. As anyone got any ideas if there is anything else we can do to try and rectify the problem please. Thanks for reading.

Does it trim up again now you have lowered the drive, if not then the drive between the motor and pump has sheared if the motor runs ok. If it trims up then it sounds like the valve in the pump is stuck.

Thanks for the response, I will check it on Sunday, is the way to unjam the Valve if stuck and if the shaft has sheared is it a full replacement.

There is usually a coupling between the pump and motor, and if its a valve you will need to strip the pump block.
