Downsizing

Boat? House? Houseboat?

A couple of friends bought a Carter 42, (Quickstep), in 1994 and I sailed with them for a few years until one wanted out.

The other then bought a Nic 31, (Jubilee).

I think we had as much fun on Jubilee as we did on Quickstep, but didnt go as far.

Depends on what your downsizing from and too I guess?

I have owned my own boat since 1974 ish and still own a 22 footer. Most of my old friends now have 33 to 48 footers and go further afield but I definitely sail more often and have much less hassle with far less things to go wrong.

PS Slightly Lake Sailored by Richard there. I must learn to type faster /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Not sure it was a true lakesailoring according to the rules, and definitely not a Lakesailor with a crash /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I wouldn't go too much further, if I were you. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Yes - changed from a 34 ft cat to a 33 ft mono. TBH not enough of a downsize to be able to make comments, except to say that there is far less GRP to polish / antifoul at the beginning of the season.

I love going longer distances in sumptuous comfort on my 42 footer, but really miss pottering around the harbour single-handed on my old 21 footer.

Or am I missing the point, and this is a troll?

It was always a maxim that the amount of seatime one got was in inverse proportion to the waterline length of the craft.

If I could only get a picture of my new (old) 22 footer I'd like to try changing my avatar as well. Only done just over 100 nms in the boat which I exchanged with my daughter; but I'm pleased thus far. I habitually sail on/off the mooring now and take delight in a good sailing ability; but the very responsiveness is also a new challenge. Good too not to be a slave anymore to the electrical demands of fridge, etc.; but drinking warm G & T's is another acquired taste.

I have only sailed big on others boats but my own boat is 24 ft 9in
and it doesn't stop me going anywhere - Sailed right round Ireland a few summers ago regularly cruise quite a long way. A small boat won't stop you from going where you want to go - yes might take a little longer but heh whats the rush.
Small is beautiful

Have gone from a 44ft Roberts I built myself, to a 33ft Nic we bought in Denia 2yrs ago, no regrets, much less expence. We are full time live aboards for the last 12 yrs.
