In that computer generated image of the harbour there appears to be a yacht about to motor straight into the breakwater!

I'm astonished that anyone would have considered Dover Harbour safe to swim in at any time!
The beach is quite pleasant as beaches go and I can see why those who enjoy swimming should want to do so, even if they weren't intending to cross the Channel. The tide runs through the harbour pretty smartly and one could reasonably hope that the water was as clean as the nearby bays outside the harbour. Something must be going very wrong if it is polluted, and/or people behaving badly.

I was thinking more dangers when / after warp handling

I was in Kent a few days the previous week and there was a very strong sulfurous smell around Dover and Folkestone. I wonder if there has been an "incident" and this is the result? Farming runoff or similar.
As for swimming in Dover harbour it is very popular with locals and with those training for cross channel swims. There is a large area all along the beach set aside for it.

Has anyone been in the new marina yet?
Still not open except they are using the new visitors pontoon for charter, fishing, safari boats and Im told a Border Force rib moors there. They are also now using the new lock for access to the Wellington dock. Not sure if they have worked out how to turn off the wave generating machine in there.

It was the wave machine that has my attention

One would have thought that someone might have just worked out that the pebble beach is a hint as to water movement in the harbour...

Paid a passing visit to Dover in the recent windy spell. Enough wind for some ferries to need a tug to berth and the swell in the new marina was definitely there but not so bad as to make the place unusable. The new cantilever bridge must present a huge area to the west so I wonder if it can be raised in high winds? The old access to the Wellington dock appears to be blocked off by a new floating pontoon across the tidal basin.

Current plan is to open the Dover new marina in April. Some work is being done around the entrance to calm the swell and make it habitable. I assume this means the Granville dock and tidal basin will be closed off at the same time as they intend to fill all that area in and turn it into errr I dont know, probably a lorry park. If so the boatyard and hoist will have to go somewhere else too.
Dover has always been a bit cheaper than other comparable marinas. I wonder if that will change.
