Am hoping to code my boat and have been told that lift off hinges are not acceptable. Does anyone know of a source of some gadget which can be screwed to the door frame to prevent it falling off in the case of an inversion (heaven forbid!)

Grateful for any advice

Many dinghys have lift off rudder pintles and of course they often invert. A piece of stainless steel plate about 20 or 22 gauge 20 mm by 100mm is screwed to the transom and bent out so that it makes a stop to the pintle (or is that gudgeon) lifting or falling off the pin (pintle). The plate is flexible and only has to be pressed in with one finger to free the rudder pintle. Now I can't imagine the structure of your door hinges but this kind of arrangement may be suitable and acceptable. If not go for normal hinges but make the pin removable with key rings at either end. (you would need to replace the pin with a longer one.) This may give you some ideas. regards from will hoping you don't become inverted.
