Re: SWMBOnomics

Piper's Export! P*ss indeed. Just checked behind the bar and there is still some McEwans's export, and, god, Tartan Special left over from New Year. It'll have to sit until 31/12/04 now, I might foist it on some drunk then.
I think we got three pints of Export and three packets of crisps for a quid in the Cathadmhara off Clyde Street when I started at the Glasgow Nautical College.
More to the point, you get a huge jug of mediocre beer or lager in the Harbour Inn for a couple of quid- today!

Re: SWMBOnomics

Bugger me, ma memory's fadin faster than TB's credibility. Ah cannae remember whit it used tae cost furra Tennants lager in Burns Howff when ah wis a mere 17 year auld, watchin ra likes o' Maggie Bell & Alex Harvey, Gerry Rafferty an other rare chanters o' thon era back in late '68. No tae mention ra trips oot tae ra Barraland or ra Denistoun Palais furra jiggin like.
Of course, it wis soon efter this that ah goat masel' an edukashun an started swiggin' ra likes o' ra Double Diamond an Red Barrel 'n that.

Re: SWMBOnomics

Burns Howff!! I've just agreed to take the missus out for lunch after dropping into the bank, which is round the corner from the Howff. I don't know what's there now but I will go and check.
Red Barrel? I think I missed that completely.

Re: Dont!

The Dial Inn, with the likes of Jimmy Barnes and others playing there on a Saturday lunchtime etc.
Also do you remember Burns Cottage on Paisley Road West, same owners as the Howff.
Move on a few years to the Picasso on top of Buchanan Street, The House of Lords, Tear Gas, The Poets etc.......ah nostalgia, a bitter pill.

Re: Dont!

Back from lunch. Doh! Not only has the Howff gone, the bank has moved! By a stroke of luck it is now right next door to the Horseshoe. I was striding off towards it but ended up having to take lunch in a Tapas bar drinking Corona with a bit of lime poking out the top. What's that all about?
The Dial Inn - great. What about the Oyster Bar in the days of punk? Just off Jamaica Street. I still venture into the BonAccord whenever I can, it's not what it was but the beer's still great.
More punk - downstairs in what was the Doune Castle in Shawlands - saw some great bands in there.

Re: Dont!

Didn't like punk then - still dont after having to watch some old git on tv somewhere in a 'jungle'.

Ah. The Doune castle - remeber all these trestle tables and being told not to stand on them by the bouncers?

Work quite near the Bon Accord. Go to the State in Holland Street. Its great.

All this nostalgia is making my hair grow back again!

Re: Dont!

What was the State called before? Didn't it used to have jazz bands on a saturday? Was in there recently, good beer and atmosphere. You're getting near the Griffin now......
I remember almost weeping outside the State about twenty years ago when a drunk reversed into my Lotus. Bastard.
