Owned a boat 4 years and on our 2nd accumulator that has just started leaking. The Jabsco pump is noisy, again on our second one. What's wrong with having a nice quiet impeller pump? Why are boat pumps usually diaphragm? I'd like an impeller pump with no accumulator tank. What am I missing?

There are some pumps that use impellers. Much more expensive than Jabsco, but worth it imo.

+1 on rafiki, got sick of the noise and vibration of the diaphragm pump and changed it for a Gianneschi (sp?) bronze impeller pump, almost silent and for sure no pulsing noise when in operation.
Well worth it for me as I got it s/h for 200euro, but wouldn't fork out 1k for it new.
