Does your boat hull "squash" when on the hard?

That is in still water probably more in a seaway. On one ship I was on there was a crack in the bulwarks amidships and in bad weather we were able to put pennies (old ones) in the crack and see them get chewed up as the crack opened and closed !

One thing I guess might be worthwhile to look at..... do the doors etc. start sticking straight away or does this happen a few

weeks later when the moisture content in the internal timbers has increased to start things swelling up?

One reason I ask this is that I left my dehumidifier off for a while in November and the doors began to get 'sticky'. Once the

dehumidifier was restarted then all was back to normal.

Another similar thing has happened to a summer house my son and I completed this year. The outside timbers have swollen

to increase the buildings overall height by over 30mm.

To allow for this we built the outside walls to support the roof beams. Then added a batten all round the inside of the ceiling

boards which stops the inner walls and Celotec insulation from 'falling in'. The inner walls are of 12mm moisture resistant

mdf and have not noticeably expanded.
