On the 26th November my boat was struck and scratched by a tender and this was witnessed by the owner of a day boat called Key Lago. This happened in the River Hamble opposite Universal, we were on our berth at the time. The insurance company wants the testimony of an independent witness but as Key Lago didn't stop I don't have his details.

If you know this boat and its owner please would you PM me so that I can pass his details on to the insurance company.

Thanks.

I have tried the harbour Master and all the Marinas most have replied but not all so he might have been a visitor. At the time he was heading down stream and was it was around 4pm, dark at 7pm he could easily have his berth outside the Hamble.

Well it is possible, but I have looked at the "Key Lago" range and they do not look familiar I thought the boat was squarer. I am still inclined to think that it is the name of the boat.

Thanks for you help, my son says Key Lago was indeed the brand so the name of the boat is unknown.

I think Sessa is the distributor and he Brand is Key Logo as they have about six different Key Lago models.

No Sessa Marine is the manufacturer (brand) - Key Largo is just one of their models.

This is a rather disingenuous thread imho. I think that Seven spades doesn't want to contact the KL owner as a mere "witness". I think that he wants instead -contrary to the facts- to accuse/pursue the KL owner of being responsible for the damage. I suggest everyone lets this thread die.

I wonder if the "disingenuous" aspect is possibly a natural reluctance by the OP to open the batting with a detailed description of the event in which the KL boat might have played a more intimate and direct role than first suggested.

If the damage is beyond a simple scratch, then I think it not unreasonable for the scratchee to make public enquiries about any vessel which could have been involved, including an appeal on the forum, or chasing up CCTV on the river.

Only if it's honest.

Agreed that trying to establish exactly what happened has to be subject to meticulous honesty if, as seems likely, an insurance company is being involved. Perhaps the OP should have been less circumlocutory in his description of the event ?

Are you already in contact with the owner of the tender that actually scratched your boat?
I'm asking because if yes, I can't see why the insurance company "wants" an independent witness, assuming this guy acknowledges his responsibility.
And if no, isn't that the person you should look for, first and foremost?

If it's an award for a weird story that you were looking for, you get my vote.

That's a lot of thinking - maybe you should sit down and let the OP have the benefit of the doubt given he's got over 4k posts on this forum?

There is no mystery here. My son was on board in the galley, and he saw a boat right outside the window really close (I was down stream in visiting my yacht club in my rib), he shot up on deck to see the man in the tender had climbed in to the Key Lago and the Key lago was now towing the tender. The two people in the Key Lago volunteered to my son "we didn't hit your boat" but the man who was on the dinghy said "we can swap details if you like" and with that they disappeared up river.

Shortly afterwards I arrived and my son said I should check the hull and see if it was ok, he could not see owing to the curvature of the hull. Sure enough there was a graze about 1m long, it looked ok so we got some 3m and removed it but unfortunately he had gone through the pain in three areas. Then the Key Lago boat came back down stream without the tender and I mistakenly asked him if he had hit my boat and he said emphatically no but that it was the owner of the boat moored behind. The harbour master put me in touch with the owner of the dinghy but his insurance company wants an independent witness.... which is the owner of the Key Lago boat.

So if you know the name of the guy who hit your boat , and the Key Lago boat was towing him . Why not ask him for the guys name. Ps it looks like all the hull is scratched !!!!!

So a tender did all that damage but the scratches seem vertical in places? If the key lago was towing the tender but was not the owner did he just rescue the out of control tender by chance/act of good seamanship or are the parties connected in some fashion? If connected why would key lago wish to assist in your claim? Might the owner of the tender not be slightly aggrieved at this co-operation?
