I am off to Cala D'Or for a couple of weeks soon and yesterday I needed see my GP for something not very serious but a case of better safe than sorry - go and see the doctor.

Had this happened next week I would find myself needing to see a doctor in Cala D'Or and it occurs to me that I have no idea where to go or how the spanish medical service works for a non-urgent but "I'd like a doctor to have a look at it" kind of situation.

Does anyone have any experience of visiting the doctor in Cala D'Or or how the system works generally in Spain?

Why, what's wrong with him :)!

I don't know the answer to the question but needless to say you should have an EHIC card (don't pay to apply online) and a travel insurance policy that doesn't have daft exclusion that relates to staying on boats.

If it's an accident and emergency type problem ,just take yourself off to you nearest a+e department with your passport and ehic card, the process works very similarly to the UK.

If it's a normal doctor you need, there will be a clinic somewhere in calador, head down there with passport and ehic card and make an appointment, again very similar to UK.

We had to take my dad to a+e in Palma earlier this year, we just rolled up at a+e at son espases hospital in Palma and got it all sorted. Took about 4 hours to get his hand stitched up after he fell.

We had a house in Spain for about 12 years - quite a few visits to the doc with the kids. Was easier to go to a private clinic and pay 50 euros to be seen immediately. Very good service. Local pharmacy should be able to point you in the right direction.

Private clinics will look like this:-

Public clinics will look like hospitals. In Mallorca they are called Unitat Bàsica de Salut.

Thanks for all the responses. Really helpful.

There is a Unitat Bàsica de Salut just up from the marina. When I first saw the sign I miss read Bàsica as basílica and thought it was a church! Funny looking church!
