Looking for any information on Dockrell Yachts and their S&S design the Dockrell 37 foot.centre board
Sailing ability? Handling etc
Thanks
Dave

Sailed one from Plymouth to Gib in 89 [ 9.5 days ] cutter rigged, 4' 6" keel up, about 7'9" keel down, pinched ends and narrow beam. Pretty good sea boat but rudder was a long way from prop so reversing was challenging. Engine had good access because it resided in the saloon. I think this boat was an extended She 32 or something, so really think 32 ft accommodation. It's late so will try and think of any other info tomorrow.

I took a Dockrell 37 from East coast to Cornwall & back a few years ago and liked it very much.
Very comfortable and good seakeeping qualities. Centreboard made it very useful for shoal areas and made finding anchoring space in crowded spots possible.
Did not like:~
1/ clonking centreboard at sea.
2/ cutter rig[ I understand the arguments for, but I think it makes tacking so much harder]
3/ Manouvering and reversing was a lottery.
4/ wasted space at stern. This boat is really a 32/34 footer and you could chop a few feet off the back without ill effect, so agree with berserksailor on that.

Pretty boat and always seem like good value though.

She was an extended Deb 33

[/ QUOTE ] Thats what PBO's "British Sailing Cruiser Guide" ca 1981 says.

Handling is "good" they say
